SPA SIX HOURS ENDURANCE :
A Celebration of Tradition!

The headline event of the Roadbook Events meeting bearing its name, the Spa Six Hours Endurance, will celebrate its 33rd edition on Saturday, September 26. More than ever, it remains one of historic motorsport's most iconic fixtures, with a story that began back in 1993.

At a time when historic racing had yet to enjoy the worldwide popularity it commands today, Alain Defalle and Vincent Collard had the vision to create something unique: a six-hour endurance race exclusively for pre-1965 cars, starting in the late afternoon before plunging into the darkness of the legendary Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.

More than three decades later, the concept has lost none of its appeal. Every year, a spectacular grid charges towards Eau Rouge shortly before 4:00 pm, before the chequered flag falls at 10:00 pm after six unforgettable hours of racing.

The history of the Spa Six Hours has evolved with the trends of historic motorsport. During the early editions, Porsche 911s were a constant presence, while British machinery dominated the honours. Lotus Elans, TVR Griffiths, Chevron B6s, Jaguar E-Types and Aston Martin DB4 GTs all etched their names into the event's illustrious roll of honour.

They were soon joined by another legendary marque: Ford. While the Shelby Mustang claimed victory in 2007, it was the mighty GT40 – four-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans – that gradually established itself as the benchmark. The statistics speak for themselves: since 2011, the iconic Sixties racer has claimed every overall victory. Each September, an extraordinary fleet of GT40s descends on the Belgian Ardennes, creating one of the most spectacular gatherings of the model anywhere in the world.

Of course, the Shelby Cobra, Jaguar E-Type, Lotus Elan 26R and even the nimble Ginetta G4R remain genuine contenders. Yet strength in numbers continues to favour the car that carried Jacky Ickx to his unforgettable Le Mans triumph in 1969.

Today's GT40s are also entrusted to some of the biggest names in international motorsport, not only within the historic racing scene. The Spa Six Hours boasts an impressive list of winners, including record-holder Martin Stretton, Dario and Marino Franchitti, André Lotterer, Andy Priaulx, Oliver Bryant and many more.

On September 26, history could be made once again, with a GT40 chasing what would be its 20th overall Spa Six Hours victory. A symbolic milestone that is sure to inspire both drivers and tuners alike, while spectators will once again enjoy one of the event's greatest attractions: a soundtrack unlike any other.
